ICU team participate in SBS Insight program and are subsequently invited present at the first Australian BOLD talks event at the Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne.

On Tuesday the 6th August, the SBS television show Insight presented an episode entitled “Dead Certain”.  The focus of the show was how evolutions in resuscitation techniques have led to the possibility of miraculous survival, and lead to the questions “when are we actually dead?”


Professor Stephen Bernard and Dr Steve Philpot, Intensive Care Consultants at the Alfred Hospital Intensive Care Unit appeared on the program to explain how new technologies being trialled at the Alfred ICU were able to give patient Colin Fiedler, and others, a second chance at life.  You can watch the episode here:

Following on from their appearance on Insight, Professor Bernard and Dr Philpot, along with Dr Steve McGloughlin, an Intensive Care Consultant, and Amelia Terracall and Tara Harris, Intensive Care Nurses, all from the Alfred Hospital ICU,  presented at the first Australian BOLD talks event at the Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne.  Again, the topic was innovations in resuscitation techniques, the talk entitled “The Lazarus Men” focussed on how new processes of resuscitation being implemented at the Alfred Hospital are producing remarkable results.
