The first numberplate from the new Victorian series (1AA – 1AA) sold for $170,000 in an on-air auction on Neil Mitchell‟s 3AW‟s morning program. All funds raised going directly towards The Alfred Trauma Care Centre.
The Alfred sincerely thanks the winner from the Yarra Valley, David, for such an astounding and generous result.
David shared his story with Neil Mitchell this morning saying; “My wife used to be a nurse at The Alfred and
she did her training there”.
Neil replies; “Well, both she and you have made a real difference there. Well done.”
The Alfred is extremely grateful to the Premier, who initiated the sale, 3AW for running the auction, and
VicRoads for providing the plates.
The Alfred‟s Director of Trauma Services, Associate Professor Mark Fitzgerald said they would buy new equipment with the money; “We are looking at a range of „life saving‟ equipment such as bronchoscopes, compartment pressure monitor and a hand held video pupillometer.”
The new slogan for the numberplates promotes road safety; „Stay Alert, Stay Alive‟.
Each number plate series lasts for approximately 60 years in Victoria.
