As part of the Alfred Week research presentations, Dr Dashiell Gantner, Alfred Intensive Care Fellow, has been awarded the Alfred Senior Medical Staff Prize for Clinical/Public Health Research for his study on after-hours discharge from intensive care units around Australia and New Zealand between 2005-2012. His study found that discharge from ICU after-hours is associated with an increased risk of death, and that despite widespread effort the proportion of patients discharged after-hours has remained static.
