Daren K. Heyland, the Director, Clinical Evaluation Research Unit, Kingston General Hospital and Director, Critical Care Nutrition announced on 3/7/15 that The Alfred was the best of the best in the 2014 Intenational Nutrition Survey.
This is the fourth time in a row that The Alfred has been a winner in this competition.
In 2008, The Alfred ICU was equal first from a field of 138.
In 2011, we were first from 176 hospitals.
In 2013 we were 7th from 190.
and last year we were first again from 166
The Clinical Evaluation Research Unit (CERU), is dedicated to improving nutrition therapies in the critically ill through knowledge generation, synthesis, and translation. We engage in a broad range of research activities and promote a culture of best practices in critical care nutrition.
What is the Best of the Best Award?
Eligible sites are ranked based on their performance on the following 5 criteria:
Adequacy of provision of energy
Use of enteral nutrition (EN)
Early initiation of EN
Use of promotility drugs and small bowel feeding tubes
Adequate glycemic control
The top site receives a $1000 reimbursement to an educational session. The top 10 sites receive a Best of Best plaque.
