The Alfred ICU Critical Care Echocardiography Course - April 2025

Echocardiography is an essential clinical tool for any critical care practitioner. The Alfred ICU runs a two day course on critical care echocardiography limited to 20 participants. The emphasis is on: Practical (TTE) echo skills acquisition – 2:1 participant: instructor ratio Interpreting echo data in the context of critical care scenarios Developing reporting skills. Assisting preparation for formal echocardiography qualifications.

Basic Assessment & Support in Intensive Care - May 2025

The Alfred - Innovation & Education Hub

This two day comprehensive course is provided to internal junior medical staff at The Alfred and a growing number of external candidates. Originally developed by Charles Gomersall and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, this international course is provided by Alfred intensive care specialists and is continually updated and rewritten to reflect best practice relevant to intensive care in Australia.

Critically Ill Airway (CIA) - May 2025

The Alfred Simulation Centre

The course builds on online pre-course learning materials with interactive ‘hands on’ practical sessions and at least twelve different simulation scenarios that run the full gamut of airway crises in the critically ill. The faculty includes multi-disciplinary experts in the management of the critically ill airway, who are also enthusiastic expert educators and simulationists.

The Alfred Adult ECMO Course is for doctors, nurses and perfusionists seeking to provide ECMO support to patients with severe forms of cardiac and respiratory failure. It is designed for participants with little prior experience in the provision of ECMO. All aspects of care required by these patients are addressed.
